Tutorial Tuesday: Copper Erosion via Makeup by Candie

I have posted yet another tutorial from Makeup by Candie. No surprise here. I love her techniques and her blending is beyond belief. I'm really into neutral eyes right now and this really just stuck out to me. While she has been doing a lot of wild and crazy colors that are just as beautiful, this look here by far is one of my favorites that she has done. Here is Copper Erosion....

Tutorial Tuesday: How To Use a Beauty Blender Sponge

I've seen a lot of makeup gurus on youtube and bloggers talk about their beauty blender sponges, yet I haven't seen anyone use theirs yet. I'm thinking of investing in one soon.

Here is a video from MakeupGeekTV showing how she uses her beauty blender sponge.

Tutorial Tuesday: Sparkly Brown Eye

Love this tutorial and look by DulceCandy87. Such a lovely look but so simple to recreate.

Hope you enjoy! If you don't have the money to spend on the NARS eyeshadow, I would suggest MAC's "mulch" as a dupe for the color that she used. Its just as beautiful and highly pigmented. You can view more of her tutorials here and make sure you follow her blog as well.

Tutorial Tuesday: DIY Brush Cleaner

A few years ago I came across a DIY recipe to make your own brush cleaner. I got tired of buying the brush cleaner from the MAC counter because it was just too expensive for how often I was cleaning my brushes. A fellow blogger The Bubbling has posted the same DIY recipe on her blog and I thought I would share it with you.

All you need are a few simple ingredients that you already have around your house.
  • shampoo
  • dish detergent
  • rubbing alcohol
  • water
I have used this recipe before and I have to say its very convenient and it works! Click here for the complete post. The only additional product I use is a leave in conditioner (for your hair) to keep the bristles of your brushes soft. I deep clean my brushes once a week and spot clean them after every use. If you don't, you will see why you should. Your face will break out...I guarantee you.

Couture Tip: If you don't have time to really saturate your brushes for a deep clean and want to spot clean them, I recommend using a makeup remover wipe and simply wipe your brush across it. It will get most pigments off and will dry quicker.

Today's tutorial comes by way of @niniluvsmakeup. I love the way she blends colros and makes eyes pop with nude lips. And I love that she used the Viva Glam Gaga 2. I'm so ready for spring and I really love this color combo. And I'm really digging her Hello Kitty mirror! Very cute.

Tutorial Tuesday: Eyebrow No No's

If you don't know I'm going to tell you now....I DESPISE BAD EYEBROWS. Let me clarify what bad eyebrows are. To me bad eyebrows are:

-over plucked
-pencil thin
-too short
-too dark (not complimenting hair color)
-crescent shaped
-highlights that aren't blended

Today's tutorial comes from MakeupbyCMichelle is an example of what NOT to do when filling in and highlighting your eyebrows. I hope this helps someone and stops them from committing cosmetic travesties.

Tutorial Tuesday: DIY Bridal Look

A friend of mine just got engaged over the holidays so we're all excited to plan her nuptials! I've got make up (as always) and weddings on the brain. I know not every bride may have it in her budget to afford an artist on that special day or just may not trust anyone else to touch her face.

For those who want to do their own make up I think this tutorial is a wonderful look for a wedding day. Youtuber lilpumpkinpie05 came up with this "DIY Bridal Tutorial"

Tutorial Tuesday: Warm Brown Eyes

**UPDATE** Ok I know that I told you all that I was going to start doing tutorials, and I am! It would be just my luck that my camera is now broken. *cue tears* I don't know how it happened. I was out at a birthday party, snapping away and it just stopped working. My mom got me this camera for Christmas 3 years ago after my other camera randomly died on the first day of a vacation in Jamaica. I'm starting to think I have bad luck with cameras....

Anyway, I'm going to continue to post some of my favorite tutorials by other gurus until I can get up and running. Today's tutorial comes from one of my favorite make up gurus on youtube DRBrooklyn730. This particular look she created is a clean and simple look that I think many of you will appreciate. Watch the video below.

Tutorial Tuesday: Nicole Scherzinger Inspired Look

It's another Tutorial Tuesday here in The Couture Lounge. I really believe in make up education and practice. I often watch videos for tips and tricks and get inspiration for new color combinations.

Last week on youtube I discovered Makeupsquare and I really like the way she works the colors and blends. I stole a few tricks that I like and tried them right away and I loved the outcome.

Here is a look inspired by a Nicole Scherzinger face that I think is lovely and would look good on any complexion.

Tutorial Tuesday: Cranberry Smokey Eye

I think I'm going to start posting my favorite tutorials on here on Tuesdays. I have had quite a few people ask me to do tutorials and I think I'm really going to do it. Make up is something that is so easy to me and has come naturally (with practice of course). I want everyday make up to be simple for everyone and there is no better way to do that than teach people.

For those who may wonder I do often watch videos on youtube from some of my favorite gurus. There are so many different techniques, tips and tricks to applying make up. In many cases there is no "right" way to apply make up but there are some theories and concepts that everyone should understand.

If you are new to make up or just want to learn more I encourage you to explore. READ books, WATCH videos and PRACTICE often. The more you practice the easier it becomes.

Here is a video that I like and I think its a wonderful make up look for the fall/winter and for Women of Color (WOC). This is the first edition of TUTORIAL TUESDAY! Hopefully it won't take me too long until I get started with my own.
